The SHAREe project (Jan 2023 to Jun 2024) it’s over! It was one and half year of intense work and collaboration between researchers from IST-ID, led by Isabel Boavida, and NTNU, led by Tor Haakon Bakken and Knut Alfredson, that ended up in a very interesting Seminar on Sustainable Hydropower.
The scope of SHAREe project was to advance our knowledge of the environmental measures to improve sustainable hydropower by sharing experiences among countries and establishing a network for future projects on sustainable hydropower. Norway, being one of Europe’s largest hydropower producers, with the highest share of electricity produced from renewable energy sources in Europe (hydropower represents 90 % of the energy) shared its scientific and technological advances on environmental mitigation measures for hydropower development. On the other hand, Portugal shared its challenges regarding sustainable hydropower development under climate change.
Results of SHAREe project included: i) a wrap-up of best practices regarding sustainable hydropower in both Norway and Portugal, ii) a Horizon Scan on sustainable hydropower, to provide a comprehensive and global overview of the emerging challenges and opportunities in the field of hydropower globally over the next 5-10 years, and iii) a Seminar on Sustainable Hydropower, insights from Norway, that took place in Lisbon on April 2.
Both countries established a symbiotic relationship based on knowledge interchange, which ensure mutual benefit and progress according to their prominent, and singular position in the hydropower sector. With SHAREe project we fostered the cooperation between the academia in Norway and Portugal based on joint research actions and by providing opportunities for careers and research experience (e.g. internship of PhD students).
Stay tunned for the next activities!
