15 International Symposium on Ecohydraulics

In early May, Isabel Boavida and António Pinheiro, both from IST, traveled to Québec, Canada, to attend the 15th International Symposium on Ecohydraulics and Fish Passage. Isabel presented the laboratory experiments conducted as part of the EcoPeak4Fish project, where we tested the flow-refuge with native and exotic species.

The conference covered a wide range of topics, including microscale to riverscape dynamics, recent developments in data acquisition techniques, fish passage, habitat connectivity, the contribution of traditional knowledge and citizen science to ecohydraulics and fish passage, dams and hydropower, environmental flows, vegetation in ecohydraulics, advances in numerical methods, stream restoration, and ecosystem engineers.

Attendees represented approximately 200 different institutions from around the world.

A technical visit was organized midway through the conference, offering participants various options to choose from. Our colleagues visited road-stream crossings and habitat connectivity in the boreal forest, where they discussed different projects aimed at mitigating and restoring flow processes and connectivity of aquatic and terrestrial habitats along the recent highway.

We look forward to meeting again in Lausanne, Switzerland, in 2026.
